Pacific Coast Scenic Byeway

Somehow I managed to miss posting this one up yesterday - a kind of dune area several miles from the ocean

Guess where we were heading

What else would you call your espresso shack on Highway 101

We see periodic signs along 101 pronouncing it to be the Pacific Coast Scenic Byway – I can’t help thinking about someone from these parts visiting Dorset, seeing the Ox Drove marked on the map as a byway and deciding to drive along it with their monster RV towing a family sized car behind – I think they might have a bit of a shock 😉.

A fairly routine day for us – we left in the cool of morning at around 07:00 – there have been, I think, just two little deviations but apart from that we’ve spent the day on 101. It was pretty quiet first thing and then busied up as the day progressed – there is a theme emerging!

We had lunch in Florence, which is one of the alternative starts for the Trans America bike route.  Steve and I started at the Golden Gate Bridge (a long way south of here) when we rode Trans Am. I decided to try the clam chowder for lunch, because that seems to be all the rage around here - it was very nice - I shall be seeking out more.

Tonight we are resting up a couple of km south of Florence, having ridden 109km with 1099m of ascent.
