Bald Eagles
Early morning view - a sandy area and the ocean are visible in the distance
Another bridge coming up - we asked the bloke in the espresso shack what it would be like - turns out he was an occasional cyclist. He said he had ridden his bike on the sidewalk but he wouldn't attempt it on the tandem. When we got to the bridge the signage said cyclists on the sidewalk must walk. The sidewalk on these bridges is generally quite narrow and with maybe a foot high kerb down to the carriageway. Anyhow, there is a button as you head onto the bridge which activates some flashing lights to warn people that there are cyclists on the bridge. Once you have pressed the button you hold your ground on the carriageway.
Interesting old 'lever' espresso machine in the espresso shack - I asked the owner to take a picture but he cut the tops of the levers. There is a British company called Londinium who still make similar lever machines (for a price)
It seemed very cold when we left our motel this morning but I think we were just in a cold pocket as it didn't seem to last very long. The early part of the day was on 101 again - at least we make fast progress on it. The last 30km or so were on the Charleston to Bandon Scenic Route - that was very nice with virtually no traffic.
I caught a glimpse of a pair of bald eagles today - the first of the trip. The gulls weren't happy - they were making a right commotion!
120km with 1125m of ascent has brought us to an AirBnB at Bandon. We have a couple of longer days coming up.
Thanks so much to those who have contributed to UNICEF.
